Bercuson is known for his expertise in Canadian military history, international relations, and intelligence studies. He has written numerous books on these topics, including "Maple Leaf Against the Axis," "Confrontation: The War with Indonesia," and "Blood on the Hills: The Canadian Army in the Korean War."

Bercuson received a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Manitoba, a Master's degree in History from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of London. He has taught at various universities across Canada, including the University of Calgary, the University of Manitoba, and the University of Toronto. He served as the Director of the Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary from 2005 to 2015.

Bercuson has also been involved in various public policy initiatives in Canada, including serving on the Advisory Committee for Smart Border Management for the Canadian government.
